Rolf Sandell, PhD, 2010

Rolf Sandell (b. 1938) is professor (emeritus) of clinical psychology, University of Linköping, Sweden. He is also a visiting professor at the University College London, Department of Psychology, Psychoanalysis Unit, where he has been at the faculty of the Research Training Program of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) since 2004. He has served as the European Chair of the Research Advisory Board of the IPA. Dr Sandell is the Secretary to the National Committee for Psychology of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Sandell is a practising psychoanalyst, member of the Swedish Psychoanalytic Association (IPA). He is also active supervising psychotherapy candidates at the University of Stockholm. The main area of his research activities is treatment research, notably psychotherapy research, where during the later years he has focused on treatment outcome as a function of individual differences among patients and therapists. Socio-emotional training in schools is also the subject of a long-term research project. His interest in individual differences has led to the development of diagnostic assessment routines. He is currently conducting a large-scale study on psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy with panic disordered patients. Dr Sandell is married to Agneta Sandell, IPA member, and has four children.
