André Green, 1995
/André Green studied medicine, specializing in psychiatry at Paris Medical and worked at several hospitals. Then, in 1965, after finishing his training as a psychoanalyst, he became a member of the Paris Psychoanalytic Society, of which he was President from 1986 to 1989.
Dr. Green is one of the most influential psychoanalysts in France. A major contributor to psychoanalysis as a theorist and a clinician, he has always linked his theory with practice. He is the author of fundamental contributions to psychoanalytic theory and technique, particularly to the treatment of severe personality disorders in his book “On Private Madness.” His book on affect theory initiated the contemporary focus on affect theory within French psychoanalysis. His books on “Peliaison” and on the work of the negative “Le Trevail du Negatif” are fundamental applications of Freud’s concept of the death drive to the clinical situation in patients with severe psychopathology. He has lectured and published extensively in English language journals, contributing to a broad following of his work outside France.
